CONSUMER ELECTRONICS
The Imagination Factory is the company behind disruptive technology integration across multiple sectors, for forward thinking brands like Gravity Industries, Samsung and Autoglass. The design and engineering teams, bring with them over 20 years experience in industrial design, creative engineering and technology integration. Our team has led on creating innovative designs and concepts across a wide range of sectors for brands including Hozelock, Shark Ninja, Adidas and Herman Miller.
The consumer electronics industry is shaping the modern world, filling homes and offices with equipment that is increasingly challenging to recycle or dispose of constructively, yet it remains an attractive market for businesses that can adapt fast, to the global demand for new products.
We believe that designers commit the Earth’s resources to their creations, the moment they put pen to paper, and it is said that 80% of a product’s environmental impact is decided at the concept stage. With this in mind, we have worked closely across Europe with consortiums and businesses to develop practical guidelines for consumer electronics businesses to design with the end in mind.
We have more recently developed a Resource Conscious Design audit for any product centric business to run in-house, ensuring we continue to remain at the forefront of developments and provide forward-thinking strategies for planet-conscious businesses around the globe.
Some examples of our work:
Design and development of a fully immersive diving experience. Through a combination of materials, form and motion, this immersive diving experience allows the player to take control of the experience in a natural way. An ergonomic housing is secured with a self-balancing mechanism to move with the main body.
The final system is a beautiful, glossy white fibreglass moulding, trimmed with high-quality black leather, integrating physical movement with the VR headset, to bring the experience alive. a beautifully engineered and upholstered platform, integrating VR headset, self-balancing mechanisms and motion controllers.
Integrating motion tracking into shotguns for a virtual Clay Shoot. Our priority was to deliver an authentic experience, which meant utilising real shotguns after they had been decommissioned. The major issue was tracking; we looked at everything from magnetic field sensors to laser solutions to establish what would offer the most credible experience whilst being mindful that replicating the gun action also needed to be part of the solution. We developed electronics to send the signal from the trigger, then reload using a secure radio link to the computer. The end result is a truly unique experience where players can enjoy these beautiful shotguns using state-of-the-art technology, tracking movements to sub-millimetre accuracy.
Designing a product with Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) Plastics. Together with FundWaste - an innovative start-up with a vision to enable businesses to generate revenue from waste - we set out to design a product using both 'Design For' and 'From Recycling' strategies.
The FundWaste device helps users 'see and smell' the state of their recycling remotely and our design enables the production of units from PCR plastics, whilst ensuring they are still suitable for effective shredding and reuse at end of life. A camera and sensors alert users to the need for a collection, avoiding costly pickups and offering recyclers higher value waste streams. The data enables businesses, schools and organisations to reduce costs and generate revenue from waste.
